A Small Economic System — Built in Public

Most kids learn about money after they have already made financial decisions.

They take on debt before they understand compounding.

They accept wages before they understand margin.

They participate in systems they were never taught to read.

Not because they are not capable.

Because no one showed them how the system works before they entered it.

⚙️ The Observation

Communities do not lack effort.

They lack coordination.

Time leaks.

Talent goes unused.

Small problems persist because no one has mapped them clearly enough to act on them.

At the same time, young people are taught to express ideas, but rarely to test them.

We teach inspiration.

We delay interaction with reality.

And by the time reality arrives, the stakes are already high.

🧪 The Experiment

This project started small.

I am working with my daughter and one of her friends to explore what it would look like to build a system where learning happens inside the real thing.

Not a simulation.

A working loop.

At the same time, I am hiring a small group of university students to help operate it, not as volunteers, but as paid contributors inside the system.

The goal is simple:

Build a small economic environment where:

  • young people learn how money actually moves
  • university students gain meaningful, paid work
  • decisions produce visible consequences
  • feedback is immediate and usable
🧩 The System

At its core, The Money Club is not a class.

It is a loop.

Ideas → builds → tests → pricing → feedback → iteration

Students generate ideas.

They use AI to research and prototype.

They test those ideas with real people.

They price them.

They learn what holds up, and what does not.

At the same time:

Revenue flows into the system.

Costs flow out.

Mentors are paid.

Materials are purchased.

Decisions affect outcomes.

Nothing is abstract.

Everything is visible.

As outlined in the program design, the model runs on open-book financials so students can see how money actually flows through a real system, not a hypothetical one.

🧱 Built for Learning — Not Profit

This is not designed to maximize profit.

It is designed to make systems legible.

Every dollar is accounted for.

Every decision has consequence.

Every outcome feeds back into the next iteration.

Students do not just learn about financial literacy.

They experience it.

Mentors do not just support learning.

They operate inside the system.

Families do not just pay for a program.

They participate in a small, local economic loop.

⚖️ The Constraint

For the system to run, it has to hold.

That means covering real costs:

  • space
  • mentor wages
  • materials
  • operations

The current threshold is simple:

If the system sustains itself, it runs.

If it does not, we adjust the design and try again.

No abstraction.

Just feedback.

This is not about entrepreneurship.

It is about legibility.

How money moves.

How incentives shape behavior.

How decisions compound.

How systems respond under pressure.

Because once those patterns become visible, they start appearing everywhere.

And once that happens, people stop moving blindly through systems they do not understand.

A way for young people to learn how systems work by participating in them, and eventually, to use that understanding to build things that hold inside their own communities.
